With summer upon us, bringing with it the social activities, road trips and visiting friends and families, you can make your smile look its best with simple tooth whitening.
Once your teeth have been whitened, you will want to care for them to keep stains away as much as possible. So which foods should you look out for that might stain your teeth?
— Drinks such as soda, coffee, wine, and tea can be refreshing but they can also stain. Ditto with fruit juices, such as cranberry or cherry. To help minimize contact with these drinks on your pearly whites, drink through a straw when possible and rinse with water afterward.
— Tomato sauce and soy sauce are delicious but they can stain your teeth. Ditto for your favorite curries and vinegar, such as balsamic. Eating crunchy fresh vegetables with these foods will help remove the staining factors of these sauces. Rinse with water and brush after eating.
— Berries, while healthy and delicious, are also apt to stain your teeth. This includes blueberries, cranberries, raspberries, and blackberries. A good strategy is drinking water with them to help dilute the staining factors. Brush and floss after eating to minimize their contact with tooth enamel.
Maintaining your bright smile is simple. Be mindful of what you eat and drink, rinse well with water after eating, and brush and floss daily. Finally, support your daily efforts with regularly scheduled dental visits. Drs. Jennifer and James Rice at Rice Dentistry of Nellysford, Nellysford, Virginia, look forward to helping you enjoy the summer season with a healthy, beautiful smile!
